I love Les Mis%C3%A9rables Two Disc Combo Pack
After seeing this, my husband remarked, "So...'Les Miserables' refers to EVERYBODY."
I have doubts about the wisdom of adapting successful music als to the big screen. IMO, the art ificiality of the music al form is better suited to the art ificiality of the stage . There are exceptions, of course. Les Miserables is one, though I must confess there were a couple of times I found myself wishing for a non-music al version with the same cast. The sheer intensity of the acting carries this movie. Hugh Jackman's Jean Valjean and Anne Hathaway's Fantine are simply stunning. The steely integrity of Russell Crowe's underplayed Javert rings true as he pursues Jean Valjean to uphold the letter of the law. Lesser acting would have made this movie cringe-worthy. As it is, it's a must-see. Tissues required. It's been a long time since I've seen a finale as rousing and awesome as this.
Others can debate the various merits of voices, range, music ality and production values. I'd say see this. It's one of the world's greatest stories.

This is definitely a masterpiece of a movie. It was colorful, sensitive, warm, hopeful, and all around wonderfully done. I am not normally a fan of Anne Hathaway, but I was in awe of her stellar performance. I also don't normally care for musicals, but as the movie progressed I didn't even really notice that they were singing anymore. The music and performances flowed so well with the intended emotion for each scene that it actually pulled me in. (Not to mention, the music in Les Miserables is awesome!) I wouldn't recommend the movie for youngsters, due to mature themes and some sexual content, however it is a wonderful masterpiece of a movie that only comes along every so often.
ReplyDeleteI saw this movie a week before it came out because I won advance screening tickets and I have known the song I Dreamed A Dream my whole life but I have never seen the musical on stage or any of the adaptations before. I went into this with no expectations at all. At first I thought the movie started off kind of fragmented and I figured because it had to introduce everybody and I was right. The film ended up as it went on drawing me in more and more and making me fall in love with it and by the end i was mesmerized with how wonderful and amazing the movie is. I believe they picked perfect roles because after i saw the movie i listened to the broadway soundtrack and i believe they did very well on picking out the cast for their vocal ranges and capabilities. I think anyone who loves the musical or is a musical person should definatly see this movie because they will not be disappointed one bit by how amazing it is.
