Zebraman Special Edition Akira Emoto

I've only ever seen two of Miike's films, Great Yokai War and this one. I dare say, it's one of the best comedies to ever come out of Japan. I think it should be made apparent that this is far from a kid flick. I believe it was more meant for the fist and second generation Tokusatsu fans who grew up with Kamen Rider and other Henshin heroes. The main hero is a guy who grew up idolizing the underdog of these heroes, Zebraman, whose show flopped after six episodes. Through his interaction with a young boy who through miricle of the Internet had rediscovered his hero, the hero finds the power within himself to become a true hero.

My favorite part of the film is the climatic final battle where Zebraman ascends and becomes a true superhero. The very purpose of this scene is to parrellel the contemporary movement in Japanese media to bring back and modernize classical superheroes with a newer and more high grade appearance. It has been done to Ultraman, Kamen Rider, and even Lion Maru.

Zebraman is worth watching, both for fans of the henshin hero genre, but also those who like comedy. the English voice cast was also pretty okay as far as quality.

As one who enjoys old movies, I had seen Adrian's name next to the credits for costume design in countless movies over the years, but I didn't know anything about this creative genius until I came across this book. The book takes the reader from the early days when Adrian was studying at Parsons in Paris to his early career as a costume designer for the stage in New York and later on in Hollywood mainly for MGM where he was the head of the costume design depart ment. He added glamour to Hollywood through his creations of lavish gowns for Great Garbo, Jean Harlow and Joan Crawford just to name a few. As the creative force in his field, at MGM Adrian was paid a large salary, but he decided to leave the studio and open his own business with the intent to sell his creations in retail and wholesale, this book also covers this period in his life. This new venture took a lot of courage and self confidence, but the gamble paid off. His business enjoyed a great deal of success.

The photography in this book is absolutely gorgeous and I noticed that the headings of each section are printed in silver, this may not seem like a big deal to some, but I appreciate the small details, which I find them appropriate for this part icular book and its subject, a clever touch indeed. Besides the stunning photos, many other gowns are beautifully described by the author. While at MGM, Adrian designed thousands of costume s, but it's unfortunate that most sketchings did not survive as Adrian had them destroyed when he left the studio for fear of someone copying his work.

The very last chapter is appropriately titled "The Adrian Legacy". In this section, one sees how many designers over the years start ing in the 1950s, some of them famous, became inspired by Adrian in creating their own designs. Adrian was and still is truly an inspiration. Highly recommended if you're a old movie buff or into fashion design.

You need To Check this Mozart Le Nozze Figaro Blu ray

Mozart Le Nozze Figaro Blu ray

This is an intense and unblinking look at human relationships and the social frames in which they are set. It is about our desperate determination to fit into such frames and to uphold them, against our deepest yearnings to transcend them. There are lovelier and funnier versions of Figaro, but I doubt that there is a more gripping exploration of the interplay between the social and the personal, public and private.

The production takes many risks, but it is so daring in conception and so creative in execution that all gambles pay off. The staging is one of complex visual allusions and minutely devised choreography. While not bathed in rococo pink, it is never bleak or monochromatic. The characters dangle in hope and fear, longing to connect and not having the courage to do so. Love is imagined, craved for, groped for, and then suppressed, deemed impractical, pushed aside. Repressive power does not simply emanate from the Count. It is internalized in everyone--albeit to varying degrees. Harnoncourt's tempos allow the opera's emotional intensity to fully unfold and passages of haunting beauty to emerge afresh. A number of scenes have a dream-like quality; they put you into a trance and allow you to truly hear the shades of feeling in the music . It could be called a modernist production, but none of it is there just to be different. It is there to visualize the relationships expressed in the music . It illuminates angles that I had never seen, heard, or imagined before. The comparison to an Ingmar Bergman film is apt in terms of the emotional and erotic charge, the superb use of light and shadow, even the camera-work. The shots from high above the stage , toward the folly, desolation, and--yes--hope below are magnificent. For despite all the loneliness and brutality and despair, there is hope. `Voi che sapete' is the most heavenly I have ever seen. Yes, seen, as this is a performance that you really have to see, not just hear.

This is a version for adults. Dim the lights and let yourself be moved. Our ability to overcome pre-given frames is at the heart of Figaro.

Prue Batten's first historical novel could not be more different from her fantasy Eirie series, and yet the same strengths that make those novels so satisfying make GISBORNE an absolute joy to read. This is a story of a desperate journey of two touchy, suspicious, and independent people who alternately support and misunderstand each other while their world collapses around them.

Ysabel's return home after her mother's death, accompanied by her father's estate manager, begins slowly and sadly enough. Their long slog across 12th century Europe reveals glimpses of a world, in William Manchester's words, lit only by fire. Soon the pace quickens, as loss and danger drive them fearfully onward. Ysabel and Gisborne forge an uneasy alliance that somehow manages to endure death, dirt, terror, loss and the beginning of a love that will cause them as much despair as happiness.

Taking readers to 12th century Aquitaine and England is as much of a challenge as taking them to any fantasy world. Batten's understanding of this world is profound, and she wears her learning lightly enough to make every potentially jarring historical fact seem natural. The flow of the narrative glides around and over the details of daily life, and illuminates the characters rather than distracting from their story. Her characters also seem products of their time, and not transplants from 1190 dressed up in Gothic costume . Ysabel's acceptance of disasters that befall her and Gisborne's drive to succeed under the political realities of his time reveal a strong-mindedness that must have been absolutely necessary for survival in that remote age.

In her previous books, set as they were in a world of folk-tale and legend, characters were few and appear as people in fairytales do: to fulfill a specific purpose with great economy. GISBORNE, however, is filled with a wonderful variety of characters from all levels of society from kitchen slaves to kings, and Batten gives each of them an individual voice and soul. All the characters in this book seem to have a tart ness and strength that helps the reader endure their hopes and disappointments, and look forward to the next stage in their adventures.

Great The Greatest Journey Essential Collection

The Greatest Journey Essential Collection

There are many reasons to purchase this excellent, albeit, review collection, but the greatest one in my opinion is the talk you will encounter with Mr. Music himself, the genius that not only in song selections, but in talent refinement. David Downes is the maestro both in front of an audience with his vigorous direction and sensitive piano playing. But he is much more than that. Youthful in appearance and precise in his language, David will tell you if you listen closely to his words how the "magic" ( as Orla put it in her interview-she charmingly said, "something happened, we don't know quite what it was- a bit of magic)occured to make CW the MUST SEE MUST HAVE DVD and CD collections that we all cherish. We love each and every presentation and David says he chose the songs HE likes to hear, with contrasts-peaceful-then rousing. I trust his choices and I laud his own compositions: "The Blessing", "One World" and the superb, "The Soft Good-bye". The purchase of this DVD is a must for all CW fans, and for New Comers because of the wonderful words of David Downes and how he loves music , loves the voices of these singers he prods and polishes to perfection. He also says in another interview,"I can't get enough of Mairead Nesbitt", the dancing fiddler with the flying blond tresses- He knew she would weave the tapestry around these singers... I love Meredith Willsons The Music Film

Meredith Willsons The Music Film

When I first watched Matthew Broderick's interpretation of the character of Harold Hill, I didn't like it but, realizing that I was locked into Robert Preston's portrayal, I thought I should give Broderick's approach a little more time before making a final judgement. Well, I did and Broderick's interpretation grew on me until now, I enjoy it as much as Preston's. I realize Robert Preston almost created the role but, in the art s, we should never get so stuck on one approach that we're not open to fresh interpretations.
Of course, Kristin Chenoweth'a performance of Marian is elegantly superb.
What a voice, and acting talent to match. One of the things that impresses me so much about Chenoweth is that she can, in spite of her training as an opera singer, adapt to any style of singing, be it pop, gospel, theater, classical, and sound authentic doing it. Too often we hear opera singers performing a Broadway song and still sounding like an opera singer.
Bravo for a wonderful show.

I love Weird Al Yankovic Live Alpocalypse

Weird Al Yankovic Live Alpocalypse

I had the pleasure of seeing "Weird" Al Yankovic when he was on "The Alpocalypse Tour" in 2011 and was wondering why he didn't have a dvd of this tour. I'm glad he finally made one and it doesn't get any weirder than Al. Although singing "Canadian Idiot" was concidered a compliment for the folks there in Canada, (which the concert was filmed), but that's what Yankovic does. When he parody's your song, he's a fan and is paying you a compliment in his "weird" way. If you are a fan then you will really like this show. He not only does his major hits like "Eat It", and "Fat" but his new hit singles "Part y In The CIA" and "Perform This Way", which he appears on stage in a peacock costume , poking fun at Gaga in a way. Each song has a costume change that goes with the theme of that song and it makes it a lot more fun to watch too. Special features are really hillarious to watch, especially his youtube videos and unseen concert footage. But if you are a Yankovic fan then you will really like this dvd!
