You need To Check this In Time

The Miami-bred, genre-defying "country" band reunites after a 10-year hiatus with some of their best work. A valentine to the faithful, the disc kicks things off with the infectious two-step "Back in Your Arms Again." The standout spaghetti western "Come Unto Me" (a Spanish version closes the disc) was rolled out as part of an EP in 2012, but anyone afraid that the rest of the disc was just filler needn't have worried. Other standouts include the wistful "In Another's Arms" and "Call Me When You Get to Heaven." If this doesn't make you want to "Dance in the Moonlight," well, then, there's something wrong with you. Keyboardist Jerry Dale McFadden, once an "unofficial" member of the group, joins founders Raul Malo, Robert Reynolds and Paul Deakin, along with guitarist Eddie Perez. Let's hope the follow-up doesn't take another decade.
Get your In Time Now!
I am so glad these guys are back together and sharing their talent with the rest of us once again. This album is full of the sounds I love from their past albums, but it's not the same thing over again. Bravo, guys!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Mavericks are one of the most unique sounding bands of the last twenty years. Listening to this album reminds me how sad it was when they split. Guys you still have it!!!!!

ReplyDeleteWell worth the wait. Raul Malo has reunited with The Mavericks and we are all better off for it. I wish I knew how to write a proper cd review, but I don't. Even if I did, I don't think it would help because these songs sail right past that analytical part of the brain and resonate with something deeper. All I can say is if you're a fan of The Mavericks and/or Raul Malo, buy this cd and you won't be disappointed. If you've never heard of them but like Americana/Country/Alt music, go ahead and buy it was well. It's just great music made thoughtfully and carefully by great musicians, and you can't go wrong with that.
ReplyDeleteI've been a fan of Raul Malo and The Mavericks for over 20 years. He/they never disappoint.
ReplyDeleteStunning melodies, heartfelt lyrics, beautiful arrangements....and that voice. Raul has the voice
of a deity. This is possibly their best album to date and that is saying a lot coz they have had
some fantastic ones. Have had the pleasure and honor of seeing/hearing them live several times since the reunion and
they are better than ever. A fantastic album on all counts.
Having been a fan of The Mavs for 20 years, and a big fan of lead singer, Raul Malo, during his solo years after the band broke up, I was pretty excited when I heard about their reunion. I expected to like the new tunes. I did not expect it to blow me away. This album of genre bending music is off the charts. The eclectic mix of retro rock/alt country with an undercurrent of Latin/Tex-Mex is an amazing collection of songs. Even though the main theme is heartbreak, the album has a mostly uplifting sound. It is impossible to sit quietly while listening. Raul's vocals are richer than ever...in fact, I believe he is the finest male vocalist ever. The band is amazingly tight. The accordian playing (by Michael Guerra) is outstanding and enhances the music. I purchased both the CD and vinyl album and I really love the organic sound, particularly in the vinyl. Cannot wait until the tour begins. 10 stars!
