ReplyDeleteSolid writing as usual. The weaving the engineering feats with historical fullness makes this book hard to put down. Recommend this book to anyone that is fan of the paranormal, history and suspense. Child remains one of my favorite authors.
ReplyDeleteKeeps you wondering with its twists and turns.
ReplyDeleteIt captured my attention from the beginning and it is a great read.
I'm a huge fan of Lincoln Child and his sometimes writing partner, Douglas Preston. I think his best work comes out of the collaboration, but he's written some excellent books on his own. His genre is mystery/thriller, but there's usually a sci-fi angle thrown in. This time though, he ventures into the paranormal with a riveting tale about the search for a Pharaoh's lost tomb. Not just any Pharaoh, but the very first one, who's buried at the bottom of a swamp. Of course there's a curse, but in this case, the curse seems to be coming true.
ReplyDeleteChild, as always, brings his characters fully to life, warts and all. The pacing is pretty crisp, though it lags just a bit in spots. The suspense is wonderfully done; you know something bad is going to happen, but just not when or where. The cover might as well have glue on it, because once you start, it's awfully hard to put down.
On my list of Child's favourites, I would put this just behind "Death Match" and "Deep Storm", and well ahead of "Terminal Freeze". It's a must-read for any Child fan, as well as anyone who likes a to get a good chill every now and then!
Well written and beautifully dynamic. Mr. Child has the gift of storytelling and provides the reader with everything a good story should - great characters, great plot, great setting, great endings. Always a good read.
