You need To Check this Out Circulation STACKS MYSTERY ebook
I don't read a lot of books where a man is the protagonist, but Charlie Harris of Miranda James' Cat in the Stacks Mystery series is something special. Over the course of this series I've watched Charlie grow from a lonely librarian to a beloved member of the genteel town of Athena, surrounded by family and friends - and a very special cat, Diesel.
In this installment war has broken out amongst the society ladies of the library board over the locale of this year's fund-raising gala, culminating in one of them murdered - pushed down the stairs on the night of the gala - in her Scarlett O'Hara gown. Charlie's cherished housekeeper Azalea is found with the body - one of many with an ax to grind with the victim. As Charlie investigates it becomes apparent these old southern families are hiding generations of sordid secrets.
My favorite characters in Out of Circulation are the Ducote sisters; I picture them as the Baldwin sisters in The Waltons. The revelations that come out of their mother's journal are straight out of an historical romance novel...I couldn't get enough!
This is the best book yet in one of my favorite cozy cat series...Charlie and Diesel are a couple of charmers that I enjoy spending time with.
Like the other reviewers, I absolutely adore this series and agree that the only bad part is having to wait for the next one. (Write faster, Ms James!) The fact that the protagonist is a fifty-something man adds to the interest. And Diesel is one of the best fictional cats ever. He doesn't see ghosts, walk through walls, or be anything other than a normal (albeit quite vocal) cat who likes treats, walks, snuggling and attention. He is a great judge of character, but then I find that most cats are. I enjoy "cat" mysteries by many other authors but this series is one of the very best around. Keep them coming!
ReplyDeleteI love, love this series. I know the author must know cats because he describes Diesel's actions and antics perfectly. Enjoy this series very much because it has 2 of my favorite things. . .books and cats. I enjoy Diesel's human and how he interacts with the townfolks of Athena. Great series and ready for more.
ReplyDeleteThis new Cat In The Stacks mystery is a winner. Charlie and Diesel have to hunt down the clues and solve the murder to save a friend once again. And frankly, I thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem now is that I have to wait so long for the next one!

Charlie isc csuch a nice southern gentleman. Love that he takes Diesel most places with him. I have read all the books in this series.Hope Miranda James keeps them coming..
ReplyDeleteThis book was FANTASTIC! The story kept you guessing, only to find out you were wrong. I loved it! I think this is the best in the series. Don't miss this one!!!
ReplyDeleteThis series, written by Miranda James who is really a man, has so much going for it, it's hard to say what I like best. The writing is excellent, perfectly tailored to the story line and environment of a small southern college town! The characters are interesting and lovable, especially Diesel the Maine Coon cat who lives with Charlie and his academic children and housemates. I re-read each one to be sure I got every detail and nuance of the characters and plot. And look forward to each new one impatiently.
ReplyDeleteMiranda James is great. I love the characters especially the cat. Great mystery novel. If you like this one try the others she has written.
