I'm Happy after buyingThis Gilbert Sullivan The Mikado
It is one of the most performed Gilbert and Sullivan operas. However opera loses some of its appeal when listening to scores only as you don't have the visual reference of the actors on stage and in costume . This tends to tire you out more than usual which makes it so that you lose some of the enjoyment. That is if you aren't used to listening to operas or you have seen the opera performed before listening to its score. I really love all of the Gilbert and Sullivan Operas that I have encountered so far and so that is why the 3 most popular ones are in my library.
I would recommend The Mikado to anyone who can listen to opera or who also enjoys Gilbert and Sullivan, as far as a gateway to opera in general I'm unsure whether it would work or not. Otherwise if you can tolerate opera especially Gilbert and Sullivan and their British humor than please pick up The Mikado otherwise you may not enjoy this as much.

ReplyDeleteOn the 100th episode of family guy stewie sings a song about his list of enemies. It sounds like music from a musical and they've been known to use the songs and change the lyrics. So does anyone know what song that originally is and what it's from?

ReplyDeleteIn the Gilbert and Sullivan opera The Mikado, does the emperor have a name? Is he always just referred to as the Mikado or does he have another name, like other characters in the opera.
ReplyDeleteThe Mikado is mine and I never tire of it.
ReplyDeleteI have inherited 6 Gilbert and Sullivan record collections, 78 RPM in large binders. The must be from around the late 30's or early 40's. The appear to be in very good shape and complete, and include the Iolanthe, the Mikado, etc. Any place I can research the value?
