Great Hamlet Anthony Hopkins
I had been waiting for years for Tony Richardson's 1969 production of Hamlet to become available on DVD. It was worth the wait.
In my experience Hamlet has fared very well on the big screen, perhaps the best entry of all being Kenneth Branagh's 1996 marvel, and this version is an excellent representative of a strong tradition. The outstanding Nicol Williamson, known also for among other things his performance as Sherlock Holmes in The Seven Percent Solution (1976), another movie that recently came out on DVD after a long period of anticipation, heads a truly fine cast in the leading role.
Beyond the novelty of Ophelia being played by Marianne Faithfull, a sweet-voiced pop singer who also happened to be Mick Jagger's love interest around the time of this movie, look for a quite young Anthony Hopkins as the murderous, incestuous King Claudius - perhaps already beginning to hone the eloquent malevolence that was so striking in his Oscar winning performance as Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs more than twenty years later. This is both a movie of substance and a real treat, all the way around.
Im a young actor who got a small but somewhat important part in the school musical. I absolutley positivley hate my part. not because its small, but beause i dont want to be seen as that character by anyone. i honestly would rather be an ensemble member because every time i perform that role, i almost want to cry or something. Its a dramatic role, and i am comedic. i avoid all dramatic roles for a reason and its too late to drop out of the show. I dont think it will be as bad if i make it funny enough that you wont forget it after the show. the show is after a very very famous movie and everyone seems to remember everything about the movie except my character which really sucks and i didnt even know who the character was when the cast list came out. the show opens in one week so please answer asap! ps, im not the most comfortable person onstage, but any cheap laughs or anything that will get me noticed are greatly appreciated :)
ReplyDeleteI know midsummernight's dream, Romeo and Joliate, Hamlet, and twelve night's... hope to know more
ReplyDeleteI was wondering who could play Polonius in a "new Hamlet movie" but has to be a actor from the last 20 years. Could anyone give some name that could play him?
ReplyDeleteYou can include some of the more recent teen movies based upon a play, like "She's the Man", or older movies like "West Side Story".
ReplyDeleteHow many Anthony Hopkins films can you name?
