A Curtain Falls-Great historical murder mystery

Great A Curtain Falls Stefanie Pintoff

A Curtain Falls Stefanie Pintoff

New York City detective Simon Ziele is back working with both his former part ner, Captain Declan Mulvaney, and the elusive criminologist Alistair Sinclair, who is both a help and a hurdle for Ziele.

Ziele, now living in Dobson, is still called on by Mulvaney when a case needs to be solved and has not been, and Sinclair is in the shadows again, and one never knows his real agenda.

Mulvaney calls on Ziele for help when a chorus girl is found dead on a Broadway stage dressed in the leading lady's costume (there are no signs of violence, etc.) It seems there is a serial killer at work.

Author Stefanie Pintoff makes it even more interesting by having the reader wonder if Simon and Alistair Sincair's daughter-in-law have a relationship slowly forming.

Excellent work, Pintoff. Please write more with these central characters.

  2. If you like suspense and an excellent mystery you'll love A Curtain Falls. This is the author's second 'Simon Ziele' book and its every bit as good as her first book. This time, Detective Ziele is on the search for a serial killer, loose in New York City's theatre district. It's 1906 and the author has done her research. The author based the killer in the book on some actual villians from the past. This guy is as bad as they get. Detective Ziele is expertly assisted by criminologist Alistair Sinclair and his recently widowed daughter-in-law Isabella. It's not just a chase to catch a killer but also a chase to find why he kills. Top notch writing.

  3. A Curtain Falls is excellent both as taut mystery and as a recreation of early 20th century NY. The author blends in the period details extremely well. The plot is tight and riveting. The characters are interesting and worth following for many more books. I can't wait for another in the series.

  7. After reading and thoroughly enjoying Stefanie Pintoff's first mystery novel In the Shadow of Gotham, I was looking forward to her second. I was not disappointed. She has again created a very authentic feeling historical setting - the theatre in 1906 New York City that is fascinating. She has also created a murder mystery scenario that kept me enthralled throughout. One of the keys to her success is her ability to draw characters that are compelling figures that could stand on their own in any genre of fiction. I highly recommend A Curtain Falls. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO HAVE READ In the Shadow of Gotham to enjoy it.
