I love Hamlet David Tennant
I first read Hamlet in senior year of high school, and then began my search for a production that I liked more than the one that played out in my head. THIS IS THAT PRODUCTION! David Tennant start ed the play out a bit too over the top, but as the play progressed his over the top acting style, that has done so well for him in Dr. Who, took it's perfect place. David Tennant brilliant plays up the crazy adding his own noises and a few extra bits that drive home the loss of mental capacity. One scene in which he proves that he can play a scene down a bit is one near the beginning when Horatio tells him of his father's appearance. His eyes tell the story of his thoughts and you truly feel his amazed astonishment. Patrick Stewart is PHENOMENAL! when he steps into frame every other actor seems like a complete idiot. His choices are new and yet do perfect justice to the original work. Gertrude is wonderfully played as a strong, confident, woman, clearly worthy of being queen. Her fright during Hamlet's murder of Polonius is just as frightening as any of the final destination, saw, or Paranormal Activity films. Polonius is daft and I love it, he plays these his scenes fabulously as a senile old man. finally Ophelia, is not a beautiful, buxom, blond and rightfully so. Her descent into madness is so good it is frightening.
Overall the film holds a generally creepy mood and I think the Bard would have been pleased with this perfect rendition of his moving horror play.
The blu ray is amazing picture and sound quality, I have not gotten to the features yet but I'm sure they wont disappoint.
I'd rather watch the play (Tennant is one of my fav. actors) then read the book for my ap lit class, and I was just wondering if the Hamlet staring david tennant is word for for with the play by shakespeare?

ReplyDeleteI've just received the leaflet for the RSC at Newcastle in October 2008, and there is no mention of Hamlet or David Tennant.
ReplyDeleteNow that the BBC has named Matt Smith as the 11th Doctor, replacing David Tennant, what do you think about it? Do you agree with the decision or do you think someone else should've been named the 11th Doctor? All opinions are welcome.

ReplyDeleteI was looking through David Tennant's theater and what he was in and I was hoping for this play to be my next one I see. Does anyone know if you can watch it online? If not, is it available on DVD possibly?
